Obituary for Peter Bunik

Devoted and supportive father, loving grandfather, accomplished mechanical engineer. Peter passed away peacefully on February 2, 2019, age 90. Born in Roshniv, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine. Peter was preceded in death by his wife Nina Bunik; they had been married 50 years. Survived by his daughters, Maya Bunik of Denver and Tania Bunik (Juri Loutchko) of St. Anthony; six grandchildren who loved him deeply, Larissa, Marko, Nicholas Babiak and Danylo, Nina, Tim Loutchko. Peter came to America from Belgium in 1954. He studied at the University of Minnesota and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Buhler Corporation, Pearson Associates, and The Boedecker Company designing many dry bulk material handling equipment projects for General Mills, Anheuser-Busch and Quaker Oats. He had many supportive sayings: ‘I believe in you!’ and ‘You will receive your grace!’. He will be most remembered as a generous, kind, hard-working gentleman with a great sense of humor. He was an enthusiastic sideline supporter at his grandchildren’s soccer games. As a young man, he played soccer as a forward and they nicknamed him ‘Sputnik’. He volunteered for St. Constantine’s Parish and School as well as for the Good Shepherd Lenten Fish Fry in Denver. He was fluent in Ukrainian, French, and German.

Visitation at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH CHAPEL (1918 University Ave. NE) Friday from 5-8 PM with Vigil Prayers (Panachyda) at 7 PM. Requiem Divine Liturgy at ST. CONSTANTINE UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (515 University Ave. NE) Saturday, February 9 at 9:30 AM with visitation one half hour prior. Interment at Hillside Cemetery. The family is grateful for Brookdale at Lowry (Denver) and Eaglecrest Arbor (Roseville) for their dementia care of Peter. A special thank you to the staff at Eaglecrest Arbor and Optage Hospice for Peter’s exceptional care over the past year.
